The Start & The Wait

I am a girl with dreams. Huge dreams. One of them going to school in America.

I just sent in my application package for High School in the USA. This means that, this summer, I will be leaving my family, friends and everything else behind to spend ten months living in the United States! This, only if I get accepted and placed in a host family. My fingers have been crossed since the moment I let my application slip into the postbox, I am even typing this with crossed fingers!

In this application package, I was asked a lot of questions. ’What are your hobbies?’, 'Why do you want to participate?’, ’What are your plans for the future?' and much more. Of course I talked about my love for horses! Not only my parents, but also my doctor, English teacher and school supervisor had to fill in forms about me.

First my package is sent to Travel Active, an organisation in The Netherlands that arranges the High School program I, hopefully, will be participating in! Then, once they have checked everything and give it their approval, it will be sent to their partner-organisation in the USA called: Ayusa. They are the ones who will try to find me a host family and take care of everything else.

Each year, over seven-thousand teenagers from all over the world come to America with the same dream as mine. They hope to get the opportunity of a life-time and explore what the life of a teenager in the United States of America is like.

Ever since I saw the killer whale show Believe
in SeaWorld Orlando, I have known that you have to reach for your dreams in order for them to come true. Believe in it, in yourself.Reach for your dreams, always be true and you’ll be amazed what they can do.

This is all I have ever wanted. It is my dream. No matter how confused I am about my life, the only thing I am certain about is that this is the right path for me. My destiny if you will. Let’s hope I get to fulfill my dream.

Much love,

Naomi
